McHugh begun his career in music at the famous Festival Studios in Pyrmont, Sydney. He has been an Engineer for over 17 years.
McHugh has worked with numerous producers and engineers over the years including: Andrew Farriss, Warne Livesley ,David Nicholas, Matt Lovell and Ed Buller to name a few. This groundwork involved working with some of the most successful bands in Australia, including: Midnight Oil, Yothu Yindi, The Superjesus, Grinspoon and more!
During McHugh’s freelance years, he worked with Jet (Shaka Rock/2009 Best Rock Album Nominated ) Dead Letter Circus (This Is A Warning/2010 Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album Nominated) and Love Tattoo (Bass has Got Me Movin’/2001 Best Dance Release) as well as many independent artists.
McHugh got the taste for film when working on Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. Where he mixed 5.1 surround remixes for such artists as Jay-Z, Lana Del Ray, Jack White as well as many 1920’s style jazz recordings.
McHugh is now Lead Engineer at Trackdown based at Fox Studios in Sydney.
His most recent film projects includes: Jasper Jones by Australian composer Antony Partos, The Lego Ninjago Movie By Mark Mothersbaugh and First They Killed My Father by Oscar nominated composer Marco Beltrami and Directed by Angelina Jolie.
